There's some good info here. Still reading, but every time I pick it up I find another interesting little tidbit. Chants and such are first written in (presumably) original language and wordage, and then almost always (say 99%) translated to English. In the past 2-3 years I've read several hundred-year-old (plus) books and the writing style of this one is as easy to read as any others in my library.Product details

I found this book a little heavy going as it was written around the late 1800's, so the language reflects that era. However, the author was the President of the Gypsy-Lore Society and his book contains a collection of the customs, ceremonies, spells, fortune-telling, witch-doctoring and many other sorceries of the era. It's a good reference book.

I've not completed the read, but so far the book seems very opinionated with regard to witchcraft and other beliefs. I always enjoy reading a well-written book of Majick, so I recommend this book if you have a knowledge base and are looking to expand questions and opinions of others.
A very absorbing book, to be sure. I thought it would go into more detail about Tarot reading and Palmistry, but it is more of a treatise on the obscure history of Shamanism and folklore with a lot of recipes for toe of frog, and tongue of newt. The woodcuts are plentiful and magnificent. I wish I could find out who did them. It does not seem to be mentioned. Probably the only collection of it's kind in print. I recommend it as a "must have" for anyone interested in the subject.
